In February, Bacchus linked the launch of the Nobu x Arita porcelain range to the 400th anniversary of Japanese Arita Porcelain and invited key UK media, retailers and Arita craftsman to a special celebration breakfast at Nobu London to mark the occasion.

The new dinnerware was designed by Nobu’s eponymous superstar chef Nobu Matsuhisa and Arita Plus; discussion at the breakfast was chaired by design editor Max Fraser (previously deputy director of the London Design Festival) and the cooking of the traditional Japanese breakfast dishes was overseen by Nobu San himself.

The porcelain range includes a variety of plates, a sushi roll holder, bowls and a Sake set. The serving plates are a delicate white with a graduated red circular motif, which both symbolizes the Japanese flag, the sun and references the Nobu logo.

Currently over 150 potteries are still creating Aritaware and a hoped for result of the anniversary celebrations is to bring the pottery to a wider, international audience to sustain the traditional skills for future generations. One of the many positive outcomes of the morning was that Harrods became the exclusive UK stockist for the range.
